This month’s Cloud & AI newsletter brings you the latest Azure platform innovations, incentives, skills training, events, and resources to help you confidently migrate and modernise your infrastructure, enhance your applications, and leverage data for a competitive edge.

  • Seamless Migration to Superior Performance & Security: Azure Database for PostgreSQL now enables businesses to upgrade from older databases like Oracle to a fully managed, open-source environment with enterprise-level performance and dependability. Leveraging new AI-driven migration tools and integrated planning, this platform simplifies processes and enhances resilience—all while reducing costs and complexity. Shift your databases to Azure PostgreSQL for superior performance, security, and an easier migration experience. You can modernise your databases quickly, utilise high-performance storage, and protect your assets with Azure’s advanced security, all from one integrated platform.

Feature

Benefits

Value for Technical Users (DBAs/Developers)

Value for IT Decision-Makers

AI-Powered Oracle-to-PostgreSQL Migration Tool

Automates the conversion of Oracle databases to PostgreSQL using AI. Benefit: Greatly minimises manual efforts and errors during migration.

Speedy, simplified migrations: Utilises AI (via VS Code and GitHub Copilot) to automatically transform Oracle schemas & PL/SQL code into Postgres. This frees database engineers from tedious hand-coding, allowing for quicker migrations with iterative testing and fixes to ensure the database runs correctly. For DBAs, this alleviates the burden considerably as the majority of the conversion process is AI-driven, only flagging areas for human review.

Faster cloud adoption & cost savings: Facilitates quicker transitions from costly Oracle systems while reducing risk. With fewer manual hours and errors, migrations finish sooner, enabling immediate savings on Oracle licensing/support costs and faster realisation of Azure benefits. AI validation on a live database mitigates migration risks, giving leaders confidence that critical data and applications will transition smoothly without unforeseen downtime.

Azure Migrate – PostgreSQL Discovery & Assessment

Identifies on-premises database servers (Oracle/PostgreSQL) for migration evaluation. Benefit: Offers a readiness report and actionable recommendations.

Strategic planning: Automatically discovers current database instances in your infrastructure and assesses their compatibility with Azure. Technical teams gain invaluable insights, including detailed inventories and compatibility analyses, allowing DB admins to execute well-informed migration plans with data-backed recommendations.

Minimised migration risk & effort: Assessments offer leadership clarity on potential obstacles and costs, thus preventing surprises. It provides an executive-ready migration plan (including estimated Azure costs), enhancing the ability to allocate budget and timeline effectively, thereby de-risking the entire migration project.

Premium SSD v2

A new high-performance disk storage with sub-millisecond latency and remarkable IOPS/throughput, all at a reduced cost for performance. Benefit: Significantly boosts database read/write speeds.

Optimised I/O performance for databases: This enables PostgreSQL servers to leverage next-gen storage with up to 80,000 IOPS and 1,200 MB/s throughput, exceeding previous specifications. DB architects can now handle I/O-intensive tasks without complex configurations. Performance tuning also becomes more manageable with adjustable IOPS/throughput.

Enterprise-grade performance at lower costs: Premium SSD v2 delivers a substantial performance boost (up to 4× more IOPS) at a better cost-per-transaction for databases, ensuring you can accommodate more users and transactions without the heavy hardware expenses. It accommodates growing demands while avoiding extensive infrastructure upgrades.

Intel & AMD V6-Series Compute SKUs (New Gen VMs, including confidential compute)

New V6 generation compute options (General Purpose & Memory Optimized) for Azure Database for PostgreSQL, powered by the latest Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC processors with local NVMe storage. Benefit: Enhances scalability and processing power; includes AMD Confidential Compute, which provides in-memory data encryption.

Increased scale & throughput: Developers and DBAs can now scale a single PostgreSQL server up to 192 vCores and ~1.8 TB RAM on high-speed CPUs, enabling them to handle intense workloads without concern for resource limitations. This also allows for database consolidation and improved management of peak loads.

Optimised performance and security at scale: The new V6 SKUs ensure that your PostgreSQL can manage enterprise workloads with exceptional performance and top-tier security features. This allows IT leaders to confidently support demanding applications while adhering to rigorous compliance standards.

  • Marketplace Rewards Update: Azure Sponsorship Now Available on More MCA Billing Profiles: We are excited to announce that we’ve streamlined how partners involved with Microsoft Marketplace Rewards can utilise Azure sponsorship credits if they or their clients operate under the Microsoft Customer Agreement (MCA) billing model. For Global Cloud, partners can now apply their Azure sponsorship credits to an MCA billing profile that has any Azure Credit Offer (ACO) credits. This modification lifts previous restrictions that complicated the redemption process, making it easier for partners and customers alike. However, the following guidelines continue to apply:

– This update solely affects those using Azure sponsorship via Marketplace Rewards.

– A billing profile cannot have multiple active sponsorships redeemed simultaneously.

– This change does not impact other requirements for Azure sponsorship eligibility.
