Partner Case Study | DeepJudge
In the legal field, success hinges on accuracy, established norms, and the effective use of institutional knowledge across various cases. For many law firms, this valuable information is documented but can be difficult to access or utilize. DeepJudge, a partner of Microsoft, is assisting legal teams in overcoming this obstacle with AI-driven search and workflow tools based on Microsoft Azure.
DeepJudge focuses on enterprise search and intelligent AI workflows crafted specifically for legal experts. They have taken part in the Microsoft for Startups initiative and the Pegasus Program, a selective scheme designed to support promising partners through technological guidance, marketing assistance, and early access to Microsoft innovations. Currently, their platform operates on Microsoft Azure, employing services like Azure OpenAI, Azure Kubernetes Service, and Microsoft Defender for Cloud to ensure both high performance and robust data security.
CMS Switzerland is a comprehensive law firm with over 160 employees and an impressive history of more than 80 years. They provide tailored legal services to businesses, investors, and private individuals. Renowned for their extensive legal knowledge and cross-border expertise, CMS Switzerland has built a rich foundation of internal resources—such as contracts, case files, templates, presentations, and precedents—stored across various systems. Although this information has traditionally been well-organised, it hasn’t always been easy for lawyers to access and use it consistently across different cases.
“Clients engage law firms for their expertise, but firms often overlook their own depth of existing knowledge and experience,” noted Stefan Brunnschweiler, Managing Partner at CMS Switzerland. The firm aimed to better harness and share its internal expertise among teams—all without disrupting current workflows or risking data security. The objective was to embed internal knowledge so that every employee could confidently use it in their everyday tasks.
Ensuring data security was of utmost importance. Being part of CMS, one of the largest global law firms with over 7,200 lawyers in 92 offices across 50 countries, CMS Switzerland required a solution that adhered to strict data protection regulations while also delivering the flexibility and performance of modern AI tools.
“Our main concern is data security,” Brunnschweiler reiterated. “Knowing that Microsoft hosts our data in Switzerland and that DeepJudge, via Microsoft, also guarantees high levels of data protection, gave us reassurance.”
CMS Switzerland started exploring options to more effectively uncover internal knowledge, reduce time spent on manual research, and facilitate quicker onboarding for new employees. They sought a solution that balanced security, reliability, and user-friendliness—while also aligning with the real-world demands of legal practice.
