From Leadership Engagement, Town Halls to Communities: Put Viva Engage to Work at Comms Camp
If you want to get the most out of Viva Engage, the best approach isn’t just watching someone do a polished demo. It’s tackling a real communications issue head-on. Whether you’re gearing up for a leadership campaign that encourages employees to engage more deeply than just reading updates, or looking to create a purpose-driven community, enhance an AMA (Ask Me Anything), integrate town hall meetings into ongoing discussions, or gauge the insights from employee queries — bring that challenge to Comms Camp. This hands-on workshop is completely free and will be held on October 12–13, 2026, at Microsoft in Redmond, Washington.
Comms Camp is crafted for corporate communication teams, along with IT, adoption, employee experience, and community partners. Attendees will utilise Viva Engage, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and actionable agent patterns to transform real-world communication challenges into practical plans and workflows that can be reused.
Viva Engage is great for enhancing leader visibility, sparking employee discussions, building communities, launching campaigns, hosting events, and sharing knowledge. However, effective communication strategies rarely kick off with just a list of features. Instead, they start with crucial questions:
- Who needs clarification or a shift in their approach?
- What does active participation look like?
- Which leader, community, or conversation can foster trust?
- What actions should follow employees’ responses?
- What indicators will show us if our communication was successful?
- How can AI assist without overshadowing the communicator’s insight?
At Comms Camp, you’ll dive into these questions and integrate Viva Engage into your communication strategy.
The workshop guides participants through a comprehensive communications scenario, from the initial request to implementation and evaluation. You can either bring your challenge or select one from examples provided. Define your target audience, desired outcome, potential risks, and the actions you want from employees.
Identify how Viva Engage, Copilot, and other Microsoft tools can enhance your communication effort. This might involve:
- A communication from a leader or executive
- Activating a community
- Launching a campaign moment
- Facilitating an AMA or event
- Crafting an employee prompt to encourage constructive participation
- Formulating a follow-up plan that maintains the dialogue
Remember, publishing is just the start. Engaging with employees through their questions, comments, and feedback offers vital context on their comprehension, what’s unclear, and the next steps required. You’ll learn how to categorise these insights into themes, actions, and a practical measurement strategy.
Participants will share their evolving playbooks, gain insights from peers, and receive constructive feedback that they can implement back at their organisations.
Explore ways in which AI can save time or enhance consistency across planning, drafting, summarising, and following up. You’ll also learn about a simple communicator agent canvas that supports repeatable workflows. While AI can speed up the process, the communicator still holds accountability for context, quality, tone, and final decisions. Utilise Copilot-assisted prompts and peer reviews to refine rough stakeholder requests into focused communications briefs.
Comms Camp aims to generate reusable resources, rather than merely offering inspiration. Depending on your chosen scenario, you could leave with:
- A strategic communications brief
- A plan for Viva Engage activation
- Copilot prompts and workflows
- A plan for communication from a leader, event, AMA, campaign, or community
- A communicator agent canvas
- A signal and measurement strategy
- A reusable communications playbook
You’ll also gain ideas from other communicators facing similar challenges, including complexities of channels, leader visibility, responsible AI usage, employee engagement, and demonstrating impact.
Comms Camp is tailored for:
- Professionals in corporate and employee communications
- Teams focused on leader and executive communications
- Community managers using Viva Engage
- Change and adoption specialists
- Leaders in employee experience
- IT partners facilitating communications and communities
Organisations are welcome to send multiple representatives, and it’s encouraged for communications and tech partners to attend together.
Participants should ensure they have access to Microsoft 365 and Viva Engage, with Microsoft 365 Copilot access highly recommended.
