Partner Blog | FabCon + SQLCon Barcelona: Turning the latest data and AI innovation into partner growth

The European Microsoft Fabric + SQL Community Conference was held in Barcelona from September 28 to October 1, 2026. This event attracted nearly 5,000 professionals from the data and AI sectors, all eager to learn and share insights on transitioning from AI trials to impactful enterprise solutions using Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL, and the larger Microsoft data and AI ecosystem.

For around 1,800 Microsoft partners who participated, one clear message emerged: customers are seeking more than just standalone data and AI initiatives. What they truly need is a cohesive, well-governed framework that integrates data, databases, analytics, AI development, enterprise-related context, security, and governance.

This presents a significant opportunity for partners in various areas such as strategy, migration, modernization, AI innovation, governance, adoption, and ongoing optimisation. Those who can effectively link Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft Foundry, Azure SQL, Microsoft IQ, and Power BI to meet their customers’ priorities can accelerate the transformation process while enhancing the sustainability and scale of their businesses.

โ€œAs an Independent Software Vendor (ISV) based in Australia, FabCon Europe has provided us with a fantastic chance to meet potential clients, connect with fellow partners, and forge relationships in the European market.Engaging with Microsoftโ€™s experts and the Fabric team has deepened our understanding of recent announcements and how we can assist customers in modernising their data environments using Microsoft Fabric. Weโ€™ve also had the opportunity to showcase our solutions and share ideasโ€”and we look forward to continuing these discussions back home at the next FabCon in Sydney.โ€

The FabCon and SQLCon 2026 event in Barcelona highlighted Microsoftโ€™s overarching strategy for its platform. As businesses start implementing AI on a larger scale, it becomes crucial for their data, business context, AI agents, security measures, and governance to function as a unified system. Microsoft unveiled new features within Fabric and its database offerings aimed at integrating these elements, from consolidating the data ecosystem to ensuring Microsoft Copilot and agents operate within a trustworthy business context reliably at scale.

This development creates an avenue for partners to broaden customer discussions beyond individual workloads.

Microsoft is integrating business context from Fabric IQ into Microsoft Copilot. The Fabric IQ feature in Copilot Chat and Cowork is now generally available, with connections to the new Code experience being offered through the Frontier program. Fabric IQ aggregates unified data from Microsoft OneLake, trusted metrics sourced from Power BI semantic models, and operational context, allowing both users and agents to operate from a mutual understanding of the business.

For partners, this opens the door to more outcome-oriented discussions regarding AI readiness. Customers seek more than mere access to models; they require governed data, consistent business definitions, and operational insights that empower Copilot and agents to yield valuable, reliable results. Partners can integrate data estate modernisation, semantic modelling, governance, and agent deployment into a single comprehensive transformation roadmap, offering customers a clearer route from foundational data work to AI adoption.

Microsoft has also rolled out new observability features for Fabric, currently in preview. With workspace monitoring, an upgraded monitor hub, and operations agents, users gain a unified perspective across workspaces, jobs, capacities, and workloads, complete with alerts, AI-aided investigations, root-cause analysis, and suggested actions.

Such visibility is increasingly critical as customers progress from pilot projects to full deployment. As their data and AI infrastructures expand, continual monitoring, optimisation, and governance will be necessary. This not only creates a consistent support mechanism for customers post-deployment but also helps with operational readiness, performance optimisation, and managed services, bolstering the reliability of their data and AI landscapes.

These updates coincide with other significant advancements across OneLake, Fabric Apps, Fabric agents, Database Hub, Azure SQL, and additional database functionalities. Together, they emphasise a practical opportunity for partners: to unify the customerโ€™s data foundation, business context, AI applications, and operations instead of viewing them as isolated technology choices.

While customers are eager to implement AI, challenges such as disconnected data, insufficient business context, and complex operations can hinder progress. Partners can set themselves apart by linking Microsoft Fabric, Microsoft Foundry, Microsoft IQ, Azure databases, and SQL modernisation around a customer-focused strategy. By doing this, partners can assist clients in unifying their data ecosystems, incorporating reliable enterprise context, and establishing the necessary governance and operational frameworks to scale AI confidently.

“Partner Day at FabCon+SQLCon Europe was incredibly informative, bringing us up to speed on Microsoft Fabric and its data and AI strategies. It was an excellent opportunity to engage with peers facing the same customer issues and allowed us a close look at the latest innovations within Fabric. Iโ€™m leaving equipped to help our clients move forward more rapidly in their data modernisation and AI transformation journeys.”
