In the current fiscal year, we have expanded into new areas and are continuously building in key markets, enhancing capacity in both new and existing locations. This helps our clients to grow with assurance. Microsoft boasts a global infrastructure that encompasses over 80 data centre regions across 34 countries, providing clients with a broader selection for data storage while ensuring data residency, compliance, and performance needs are met.

These investments do more than just increase capacity; they offer reliable, sovereign solutions that promote transparency, operational control, and adherence to local laws.

We’re rapidly advancing with a clear goal: to support our clients as demand escalates. We focus our investments where organisations are developing and expanding critical workloads, continuing to enlarge our regional presence with secure, resilient cloud and AI services—including sovereign solutions that provide the control and flexibility many organisations require.

Our efforts extend beyond just increasing capacity; we deliver trusted sovereign infrastructure that promotes innovation with transparency, operational control, and adherence to local regulations.

With Azure data centre regions throughout the European Union, the EU Data Boundary, and Microsoft Sovereign Cloud, customers can manage how and where their data is stored and processed—without compromising on access to cutting-edge cloud and AI capabilities.

Northern Europe: Enhancing AI and Cloud Innovation in the Nordics

In the Scandinavian nations of Northern Europe, the demand from industries, public sectors, and businesses is rapidly increasing, fuelled by advanced digital and AI workloads.

In Sweden, we are matching this growing demand with a sustainable approach to designing and powering Azure data centres, incorporating:

  • Natural air cooling.
  • Rainwater recycling.
  • Renewable diesel backup power sources.
  • Collaboration with Vattenfall to utilise everyday renewable energy resources.

Organisations like Legora and Inriver are employing Azure and Azure OpenAI to create AI-driven solutions and enhance digital experiences. Meanwhile, Sandvik is transforming the manufacturing sector with Microsoft AI solutions.

That same emphasis on proximity, resilience, and reliability is guiding cloud adoption in Denmark. The newly established Denmark East data centre region enables organisations to operate workloads closer to users while fulfilling data residency and protection requirements, thereby reinforcing their digital resilience.

As demand grows throughout the Nordics, we are continuing to invest in cloud and AI capabilities across the region, supporting the next wave of innovation from clients like Sanoma in Finland and the City of Stavanger in Norway.

Southern Europe: Boosting Digital Transformation with Local Azure Regions

In Southern Europe, we’re witnessing impressive growth in cloud adoption as organisations modernise their IT frameworks, broaden digital services, and bring AI workloads closer to their users. Countries like Spain and Italy are leveraging Azure infrastructure to support cloud and AI workloads with low latency while complying with regional and EU regulations.

In Madrid, the Spain Central data centre region empowers companies like LaLiga to develop and expand digital services. By utilising Azure Arc, LaLiga offers seamless fan experiences and AI-driven insights, illustrating how local infrastructure can fuel large-scale innovation.

Simultaneously, firms such as Telefónica are enhancing their AI and machine learning capabilities via Azure, while Amadeus is employing Azure Databricks to improve data-driven decision-making. Additionally, Factorial is deploying its platform on Azure Kubernetes Service to scale efficiently and support rapid growth.

Similarly, the Italy North data centre region in Milan broadens access to trusted cloud and AI infrastructure, enabling organisations to meet local data requirements while modernising effective systems and boosting innovation.

Microsoft collaborates with telecom operator FiberCop to bring cloud and AI capabilities closer to businesses throughout Italy. By integrating Microsoft technologies with FiberCop’s nationwide network and edge infrastructure, we deliver ultra-low latency performance for applications like industrial automation, healthcare systems, and smart city solutions, while broadening deployment options for clients creating secure cloud and AI services in Italy.

Moving further south, in Greece, Microsoft is enhancing access to reliable cloud and AI infrastructure, aiding both public sector transformations and enterprise innovations. Azure allows organisations to deploy locally, satisfy regulatory standards, and hasten their digital evolution.

In the financial services sector, influential organisations like the National Bank of Greece leverage Azure to bolster resilience, improve customer experiences, and power their operations with data and AI. In the area of energy and critical infrastructure, companies like HELLENiQ Energy are employing Azure to upgrade systems, enhance performance, and support the transition to more sustainable, intelligent operations. These efforts reflect a broader momentum across Greece, where cloud and AI are foundational elements for economic growth, public service delivery, and long-term competitiveness.

Western Europe: Investing in Cloud Capacity and AI Expertise

In Western Europe, Microsoft continues to commit to developing infrastructure to accommodate the burgeoning demand in markets like the United Kingdom and Belgium. The United Kingdom stands as a major cloud market in Europe, exhibiting rapid demand spanning the public sector, financial services, healthcare, and enterprise operations.

As part of our commitment, Microsoft is investing $30 billion in AI infrastructure and operational initiatives in the United Kingdom from 2025 to 2028. This includes $15 billion for capital expenditures aimed at enlarging cloud and AI capabilities as well as expanding our data centre footprint.

Entities like the Manchester City Council are harnessing Microsoft 365 Copilot to boost productivity and enhance citizen services. At the same time, Space Intelligence is providing data-driven insights for sustainability, while ITF is innovating its processes on Azure to enhance efficiency and scalability.

Building on the positive momentum in the United Kingdom, Microsoft is also advancing digital innovation in Belgium. Our Belgium Central region continues to grow since its recent launch, supporting local businesses while contributing to skill development and economic progress.

Microsoft’s commitment in Belgium goes beyond infrastructure; AI expertise is crucial for unlocking the nation’s digital transformation. That’s why we recently partnered with the Flemish government to introduce Microsoft Copilot to 10,000 civil servants, marking one of Europe’s most significant public Copilot initiatives.

Central Europe: Supporting Compliance and Advanced Analytics with Azure

Microsoft’s commitment to expanding regional capabilities extends even further into Central Europe. In Germany, our Azure infrastructure facilitates local deployments while maintaining connectivity to the broader Microsoft Cloud for resilience and operational flexibility.

The Germany West Central region ensures high availability and performance support for organisations like BMW Group, which is driving innovation in the automotive sector with Azure. Meanwhile, TK Elevator is revolutionising its digital services and operational efficiency with Azure.

Basalt AG is employing Microsoft Fabric to derive insights from data and enhance analytical capabilities while ensuring strong governance in line with regional demands. As analytics and AI needs grow, access to regional cloud capacity empowers organisations in Germany to scale effectively without compromising on security or compliance.

In Austria, the Azure infrastructure allows organisations to locally store and process data, facilitating compliance and innovation across various sectors.

We are committed to equipping 200,000 individuals in Austria with digital skills to support the country’s future. Initiatives like Red Bull Basement illustrate how these skills translate into tangible innovation, fostering the next generation of creators to develop fresh ideas using Microsoft AI technologies, including Azure OpenAI.

Similar advancements are unfolding in Poland, where cloud-driven innovation is transforming education and healthcare. In Poland, organisations are embracing digital transformation to tackle real issues. Photon Education is redefining classroom experiences, enabling teachers to offer more engaging and inclusive learning opportunities. Meanwhile, CancerCenter.AI is reshaping cancer diagnostics and shortening diagnosis timelines with an Azure-powered platform, exemplifying how innovation in Poland is paving the way for a more connected future.

Creating Resilient Multi-Region Cloud Frameworks

Europe is intricately woven into the global economy, with businesses traversing borders and serving diverse customers worldwide. Microsoft’s growing regional presence empowers our clients to construct multi-region cloud architectures, deploying applications across multiple Azure regions for enhanced flexibility and control.
