In the realm of Frontier Transformation, we’re witnessing customers move from experimental stages to actual implementation, thus creating opportunities for partners to align their capabilities with tangible customer needs and measurable results.

For instance, a customer might need to modernise their applications, infrastructure, or data before they can effectively scale AI. Another could be ready to develop agents or redesign business processes. Others may be focusing on Microsoft Copilot adoption, security measures, governance, or creating new AI-driven products and services.

Choosing the right starting point hinges on understanding where each customer is in their AI journey and what outcomes they wish to achieve.

The Microsoft FY27 go-to-market strategy increasingly centres on customer discussions that tie foundational modernisation to AI transformation.

Frontier Accelerate offers a framework for contemplating this journey. Core Conversations concentrate on areas like cloud and AI readiness, migration and modernisation, data and platform modernisation, security, and Copilot adoption. Meanwhile, Frontier Conversations explore emerging opportunities such as agentic AI and AI-fuelled business transformation.

The key query for partners is practical: Which conversations are you best positioned to lead now, and what capabilities will empower you to steer future discussions?

Recent research highlights why the next conversation is important. In a Microsoft-commissioned Total Economic Impact study, Forrester Consulting estimated the potential revenue from Azure services for a composite small and medium-sized business (SMB) customer. The findings suggested about $23,278* in projected partner revenue over three years, based on observed attach rates, compared to a total potential of $95,000 over the customer lifecycle. This broader opportunity includes Azure migration, data platform modernisation, and AI solutions.

A similar trend is evident at the enterprise level. In another study commissioned by Microsoft (download pdf), Forrester assessed that partners could expect around $3.0 million in revenue from a composite enterprise customer over three years, with an overall opportunity of roughly $5.7 million. The research underscores the significance of data platform modernisation, AI solutions, and managed services for building long-term partner value.

This reinforces the land-and-expand approach for partners. A migration project can lay the groundwork for cloud adoption and establish a strong customer relationship. From this point, partners can identify ways to modernize and unify data, introduce AI solutions, and offer managed services that create ongoing value. While these opportunities will differ by customer, this progression shows a pathway to connect present projects with their future transformation goals.
