Security Review for Microsoft Edge version 152

We’ve taken a close look at the new settings in Microsoft Edge version 152 and found that there aren’t any extra security features that need to be enforced right now. We still recommend sticking with the Microsoft Edge version 151 security baseline, which you can easily download from the Microsoft Security Compliance Toolkit.

Version 152 of Microsoft Edge has introduced four new settings for both computers and users. To help you locate these new settings effortlessly, we’ve put together a handy spreadsheet.

From version 152 onwards, Microsoft Edge will be following a more frequent release schedule. This change is designed to better suit the needs of enterprise customers. The Microsoft Edge security baseline is now expected to sync up with the Extended Stable Channel, which delivers major feature updates every eight weeks while still rolling out security and quality improvements in between. This method gives organisations extra time to assess and implement feature changes, ensuring that security measures stay up to date.

So, why make this change? Security baselines are meant to guide you in managing security-related configuration settings without tracking every single new feature that comes with each browser update. Keeping up with a two-week release cycle and updating baselines for every single release would raise operational demands without significantly enhancing security. The Extended Stable Channel offers a better solution for enterprise clients by allowing ample time for testing and feedback, while still addressing security fixes and critical updates during major feature releases.

By aligning with the Extended Stable approach, we can reduce the frequency of baseline updates and focus on publishing them earlier in the release process. This gives IT administrators more time to review and strategise for any upcoming changes. Our aim is to ensure that adopting security baselines is predictable and easier to handle, while we continue to offer prompt security advice.

Just a quick reminder: You can find all the settings available for Microsoft Edge documented here, and the settings for Microsoft Edge Update are detailed here.
