Study and Learn Agent: Now in 50 Languages, images improvements, ready when you open Copilot

When we launched the Study and Learn Agent, our goal was straightforward: empower students to think for themselves. Rather than simply giving answers, Study and Learn encourages you to question and explore. It engages you interactively and quizzes you on areas where you need improvement. You can find it right here: aka.ms/studyandlearn, within your Microsoft Education account.

This tool acts as a coach for learners in any subject, breaking down concepts and guiding you through problems step by step. It assists with writing without writing for you, and it can create flashcards, quizzes, matching exercises, and fill-in-the-blank activities from your own materials. The main idea? To keep the effort in learning that helps it stick. Think actively; let the Agent guide your thinking.

Study and Learn is accessible by default for every adult learner using Microsoft Education. There’s no setup necessary — it’s conveniently located in the left navigation menu of Microsoft 365 Copilot.

For K-12 students aged 13–17, there’s one quick step first: you need to enable Copilot Chat. Until that’s done, students won’t be able to access the Agent. The good news? There’s a straightforward tutorial that walks IT admins through the enabling process. Check out the enablement video here.

If you want an in-depth overview, Mike Tholfsen has created a complete tutorial that showcases every feature in action. It’s the quickest way to see the agent in use. Watch it here:

For K-12 students who already have Copilot Chat enabled, Study and Learn is now pre-selected as soon as they open it. The coach is ready to assist – no need to search through menus or choose an agent. Copilot Chat defaults to learning mode, but students can easily dismiss it if they’re focusing on something else.

IT admins retain control, as this setting is managed in the Education settings panel of the Microsoft 365 admin centre. It’s enabled by default for K-12 and disabled by default for higher education, where admins can activate it at their discretion.

Initially optimised for English (US), Study and Learn now speaks the way your students do.

The Agent is now available in over 50 languages besides English. Set your browser or operating system to a supported language, and visit aka.ms/studyandlearn. You’ll experience a user-friendly interface and lively conversations in your chosen language. Learning activities like flashcards and quizzes appear in the language of your choice, too. More language support is gradually being rolled out and will be available soon.

Plus, flexibility is key. A learner can switch languages during a session for a genuinely multilingual experience. If they’re learning a new language but want vocabulary in that language and explanations in their native tongue, they can easily do so. The coaching language adapts seamlessly.

This is particularly valuable for students learning in a second language or families where the home language differs from the school language. It transforms a tool that speaks at them into one that is responsive to their unique situations.

Some concepts are easier to grasp with a visual aid. Think of a cell’s structure, the layers of the atmosphere, or the femur meeting the hip — these can be tough to describe.

Study and Learn now incorporates a carousel of relevant, web-safe images sourced through search, integrated into the Agent’s responses. These visuals provide a helpful nudge toward understanding without rushing the process, ensuring students derive the answers through their own effort.

This visual approach is especially effective in subjects like biology, geography, or chemistry, where a well-placed image can convey what several paragraphs might not. This feature is being rolled out and will be available to all users in the coming days. You can always share your feedback here.

Here’s a handy prompt pack — a collection of ready-to-use prompts designed to help learners effectively utilise the Agent, arranged around real situations they face:

  • Understand a difficult topic — “Use these materials to find key ideas and help me grasp them.”, “Break down [topic] step by step, then test my understanding.”
  • Practice knowledge — “Create a matching activity based on the key terms in this chapter.”, “Make a fill-in-the-blanks exercise using these materials.”
  • Improve my work — “Review what I missed and clarify the concepts I need to refine.”, “Help me understand where my answer went wrong, and then I’ll try again.”
  • Work on an assignment — “Help me brainstorm for this assignment.”, “Review my draft and suggest one area to strengthen.”, “Check if my evidence backs up my main argument.”
  • Prepare for a test — “Use these resources to highlight the topics I should focus on.”, “Give me a quick review of the concepts I’m still unsure about.”

Each prompt ensures that the learner remains in charge, allowing the Agent to assist them in thinking and practicing rather than simply handing out answers. Share this pack at the beginning of a new unit and observe how it transforms student engagement.

Everything shared thus far places the coach in the hands of learners. However, soon educators will gain the ability to assign the use of Study and Learn Agent directly within a Teams assignment. Instead of a generic “you can use this,” teachers can direct students to the Agent for specific assignments integrated right into what they’re already working on.

All these features (the languages, pre-selection, prompt pack, images, and assignments) are tailored to meet learners at their level. They receive support in their language, right when they access Copilot, with guidance from the educators who understand them best.

To get started, open Microsoft 365 Copilot. Look in the left navigation panel, then watch Mike’s complete tutorial and give it a try with your next study topic. Educators can also access the full professional development course on Study and Learn, complete with tips for introducing the Agent to students.

Explore Study and Learn Agent · A Microsoft Education licence is required. K-12 student access (13–17 years) needs IT approval for Copilot Chat.
