The Event Ended. The Community Didn't.

GitHub Copilot Dev Day in Dublin and Norway

In 2026, GitHub Copilot Dev Day events were designed to assist developers in utilising AI effectively. However, they achieved something even more significant. They highlighted that building a strong community is more beneficial than just offering downloads or documentation. Through 58 countries, 294 community-founded events successfully gathered 22,042 developers in person. This was about more than just tools; it was an opportunity to transform personal ideas into viable software with the help of AI. A key driver behind this initiative was the involvement of Microsoft MVPs, who brought invaluable experience directly to developers in their local areas.

When you trace the success of these Dev Days back to its roots, it’s clear that it revolves around people. Organisers consistently acknowledged one primary advantage: their collaboration with Microsoft MVPs and GitHub Stars, who were already well-integrated into their communities and knew how to rally developers around innovative concepts.

They did much more than just host events. They actively recruited participants, personalised messages for their audiences, offered guidance to newcomers, and continued conversations even after the final session. Trust is something that unique programmes cannot replicate. When developers team up with someone they already know from a local group, they don’t merely participate — they collaborate and create.

A Universal Framework, Countless Local Narratives

A developer in Seoul experienced a completely different event compared to someone in Kampala, Mumbai, Lagos, or Lima. Yet, all of these gatherings shared a common foundation. Dev Days provided organisers with an “event-in-a-box” concept, allowing them to focus on community building rather than start from scratch with presentations. Many customised the content to reflect their unique community vibes. This led to a globally scalable initiative still infused with local character — communities across South Korea to Pakistan, Norway to the Philippines, were all united in a shared mission: turning developers’ dreams into concrete reality with AI.

True success stories emerge from the participants themselves — from Dublin to Seoul. MVP names link to their Microsoft MVP profiles.

“The energy in the room was unreal — great people, great conversations.” — Hugo Barona, MVP, Dublin

Norway: At a community-hosted Dev Day in Enora, the event attracted a full crowd, co-hosted by MVP Johan Ludvig Brattås and fellow MVPs. The key takeaway wasn’t focused on any one tool

“I intentionally didn’t mention a single AI tool by name.” — Maxim Salnikov, speaker, Norway

GitHub Copilot Dev Days in Chennai, Bengaluru, India

Chennai, India: Over 100 developers attended, with engaging sessions and unstoppable energy — featuring a hands-on build of a Social Bingo game in Agent Mode.

“We’re not just hosting events — we’re building a movement around AI-first development.” — Saravanan Ganesan, MVP, Chennai

Nairobi, Kenya: In Nairobi, developers not only learned but also left with a fully functional offline AI health assistant running on their devices.

“Prompt engineering is the infrastructure.” — Edgar McOchieng, MVP, Nairobi

Toronto, Canada: A gathering of over 250 participants filled Microsoft’s Toronto headquarters for sessions on agentic workflows and intelligent CI/CD.

“AI tools are evolving rapidly, but the true edge is in communities that explore, share insights, and support each other in mastering AI-driven solutions through local events and practical labs.” — Jack Lee, MVP, Toronto

Sahiwal, Pakistan: Dev Days reached beyond major cities. In Sahiwal, students left with a newfound focus on leadership rather than just tools.

“We have to be the driver — not let AI drive.” — Eman Tahir, attendee, Sahiwal

Manila, Philippines: Organised by DEVCON Philippines, developers experienced hands-free, agent-powered development live under the guidance of MVP Ziggy Zulueta.

“Hands-free development isn’t about replacing developers — it’s about enhancing them.” — Ziggy Zulueta, MVP, Manila

Seoul, South Korea:

Two tracks and four sessions illustrated how a single Copilot subscription can transition across various editors, co-led by MVPs Kim Jinseok and Bora Lee, alongside Microsoft’s Justin Yoo.

“The only instruction I needed was: ‘upgrade it.’” — Kim Jinseok, MVP, Seoul

The key takeaway from all this enthusiasm? AI is revolutionising our development practices at a pace that’s hard to match alone. The developers who excel won’t be those poring over every document in solitude; they’ll be the ones engaging with a community that learns and innovates collaboratively.

These Dev Days made that clear. The technology opened up the possibilities, but it was the community — the MVPs who answered queries like “how did you achieve that?” and peers whose ideas sparked creativity — that transformed a simple demo into the confidence to create genuine software.

As we enter the AI era, community support isn’t just an added bonus; it’s an essential part of the learning process.

Top-notch community events don’t just end — they spark new beginnings. While the live Dev Days series has concluded, every workshop, lab, and resource is still available, free of charge, ready for you to dive in. You don’t need a scheduled event to continue your learning journey. All you need is an hour, your favourite IDE, and the same content that thousands of developers have already used to realise their ideas.

Everything is available here: 12 hands-on workshops covering 6 languages and 6 IDEs. Choose your stack and create something real:

    • If you’re new to Copilot: Start absolutely free and at your own pace with the GitHub Learn Labs at learn.github.com/skills.
    • Go deeper: Engage with the Agent Labs (Python, TypeScript, Java, .NET) and Copilot CLI workshops that guide you from your first prompt to real-world workflows.
    • Choose your IDE: Dedicated labs for Visual Studio 2026, JetBrains / IntelliJ, and Xcode.

Self-paced resources cover the what. Your local MVPs and User Groups will teach you the how, why, and shortcuts that aren’t documented elsewhere.

    • Connect with your local User Group through the Microsoft Tech Community User Groups directory and be part of the next meetup.
    • Follow the MVPs who hosted Dev Days in your area — they’re still sharing content, educating, and innovating.

Every location told a distinct story — a local organiser spent hours ensuring everything ran smoothly, a speaker gave up their Saturday, a community leader helped someone launch their very first AI project. From Nairobi to Toronto, from Dublin to Seoul, from Chennai to Manila, MVPs showcased the power of community-driven innovation.

While Dev Days originated as a worldwide initiative, its triumph was crafted one local community at a time — and that achievement belongs to the MVPs who brought it to life.
